CHRISTCHURCH HUB

“We have a list of people in our services wanting to join in on this amazing experience with Circability. These sessions provide a safe space for our people to learn new experiences and express themselves through the specialist creations of circus arts.” - IDEA Services

Circability’s Christchurch Hub is the new kid on the block, and the farthest hub from the main office, located in Te Waipounamu. The Hub is managed by Flair McKay, who brings a wealth of event and community management and engagement experience; classes are run by five very talented tutors, including locally world-famous Mullet Man, Nathan Bronner.

While embedding Circability’s kaupapa of “all ages, all abilities, all cultures - better together” into our work, the Christchurch Hub has focused on several key areas, differentiating our work from other Hubs. The city has a rich and highly visible kaewa (homeless) community, and one of Flair’s passions is engagement with local kaewa to bring play and laughter into their lives through the tools of social circus. Support from Housing First Ōtautahi and the Christchurch City Council has enabled our inner-city activation sessions with kaewa.

Circability classes held in Ōtautahi:

  • Te Waka Unua Primary School - Bilingual

  • Little Owls Preschool

  • Waitaha School - Special Education School

  • Tētēkua Hub

  • Idea Services

  • Circus at The Commons

  • Friendship Link - Delta Community Trust - Day programme for adults with intellectual disabilities
